What is QR code?

QR Code is a machine readable 2D matrix label which is capable to contain lots of data. There are multiple software available in the market by which you can scan and generate QR code for any product, website. Nowadays most of the mobile phones inbuilt with QC scanner.

QR Code looks like Barcode but instead of vertical stripes line, are made up of square patterns.

History of QR Code?

First QR Code was developed by Masahiro Hara, An engineer working for Denso Wave (a subsidiary of Toyota) in 1994 for an automotive industry in Japan.

They actually wanted to track parts/accessories & vehicle during production and manufacturing so Denso Wave developed a QR code that can store more information, including kanji and kana characters at higher speed.

QR Code is capable of holding up to 7,000 numerals plus kanji characters, and it could be read ten times faster than a normal barcode.


Why it is faster and store more information?

QR Code is faster than Bar Code because QR code reads in two directions (that’s why it called 2 dimensional barcode) from top to bottom & right to left whereas Ordinary barcode read in one direction – top to bottom that’s why they can only store a small amount of information in an alphanumeric format.

How do QR codes work?

QR code made with multiple pattern which represent binary codes.

A QR Code can recognize by QR reader on the three large squares outside of the QR code. The QR reader analyzes the QR code by breaking the whole things down to grid. It scan individual grid square and assign each one a value based on whether it is white or black and then groups grid squares together to create larger patterns.
